The sighting system is attached to a helmet (1) worn by a user of a firearm (80), both helmet and firearm being equipped with cameras (3, 83). Each camera has an objective lens (4,84) and photosensitive transducer (9,89). A computer receives digitised information from the two cameras. A viewing screen (90) is mounted on the front of the helmet to display symbols related to the line of sight of the firearm and calculated by the computer w.r.t the camera data. A number of reference markers (7,87,88), within the range of the transducers, are placed between the firearm and the helmet in order to assist in sighting the weapon. The reference markers may be either passive or active devices e.g reflectors or electroluminescent screens. On fire position, the marker placed on the helmet is in the firearm camera field, and the markers placed on the firearm are in the helmet camera field.
