CELL TRANSMISSION METHOD

PURPOSE:To improve the transmission efficiency of multiplexed/demultiplexed cells by reading cells from only a cell buffer corresponding to a register whose flag is set. CONSTITUTION:When a cell reaches a cell buffer 1 provided to each input link, a cell validity discrimination section 6 checks an address part of the cell header and sets a flag to a register 2 corresponding to the address when the cell is valid. A cell buffer read control section 3 periodically checks the flag of the register 2 and sends a cell enable signal to the cell buffer 1 corresponding to the address of the register 2 whose flag is set. Only the cell in the cell buffer 1 receiving a cell enable signal is read and sent to an output link via a multiplexer section 7. When the cell is read, the flag of the register 2 whose address corresponds to that of the cell buffer 1 is cleared. A defect of extended wait time of a link with a high frequency of use in the method of accessing the cell buffer 1 periodically is eliminated.
