PURPOSE:To provide a drive controller which can control by obtaining a dis tance between vehicles and a relative speed without influence of vibration, noise with high reliability, control without delay without instability of a control system and drive in a high density. CONSTITUTION:The drive controller for a vehicle comprises display units 17, 27 for displaying geometric patterns, and TV cameras 21, 31 for imaging a display content of the unit 17 installed at a preceding vehicle to output an image signal in vehicles. The vehicle further has a pattern measuring unit 23 for measuring a characteristic amount of the pattern in the image output from the camera 21 to obtain a distance between the vehicles and a relative speed, a pattern recognition unit 24 for recognizing the pattern in the signal to obtain a state amount of manipulated variable the preceding vehicle and a controller 25 for outputting a manipulated variable to a driver 26 for driving the own vehicle based on the state amounts and outputting display information for displaying the amount as the pattern on the unit 27. |
