In an identification device esp. for logs or the like, having a support (2) fixed to the object by a fixing portion (5) which penetrates the object, an identification and information label (6) is permanently adhesively bonded to the outer face of the support (2). Pref. the label (6) is a slightly ductile, flexible PVC film, marked with information and identification marks by thermal impact across a polyester transfer film. The support (2) is pref. made of mouldable or deep drawable synthetic or metallic material, pref. a PC/ABS polymer blend.
