PURPOSE:To shorten the time required for picture reduction without extremely increasing circuits by performing control so as to withhold the input of original pictures while using a storage device by the matrix numbers of picture elements and simultaneously performing multistage reduction. CONSTITUTION:A control part 20 holds the row numbers and column numbers of the picture elements of respective images and a sub-address generation part 22 defines plural peripheral picture elements including significant elements and the plural peripheral picture elements of an already reduced picture element as reference picture elements and defines sub addresses by control signals generated by the control part 20. Then, by selection signals generated by the control part 20, the sub addresses are combined and addresses to a ROM 24 are generated. A reduction value corresponding to the pattern of the reference picture elements is read from the ROM 24 and the reduction is performed. In such a manner, the reduction of multiple stages is simultaneously performed. |
