PURPOSE:To form character patterns of layouts optimum in terms of design relating to contracted sounds, assimilated sounds, symbols, etc., in the case of conversion of character pattern data between a first character overrun and a second character overrun like lateral writing format and vertical writing format. CONSTITUTION:The positions of the occupying regions of the second character patterns are calculated in accordance with the first character pattern data in such a manner that both of the ratio CT:DT of the front and rear spacings in the character-wise direction in the second character overrun among the spacings between the boundaries of the allotment regions allotted to the character patterns and the boundaries of the occupying regions where the character patterns occupy in these allotment regions and the ratio AT:BT of the front and rear spacings in the line-wise direction are equaled to the ratio A:B of the front and rear spacings in the character-wise direction in the first character overrun and the ratio C:D of the front and rear spacings in the line-wise direction. The second character pattern data are formed from the first character pattern data in accordance with the positions of the calculated occupying regions. |
