PURPOSE: To output the mixing product of light power corresponding to the phase relation between signal light and pump light irrelevantly to the polarized state of the signal light. CONSTITUTION: This optical mixer is equipped with a light guide body 4 as a mixing element and a coupler 2 for coupling the signal light S and pump light P with a 1st end part 10 of the light guide body 4. The signal light S, pump light P, and their mixing product M are outputted from a 2nd end part 11 of the light guide body 4 and the light light body 4 maintains polarization. The plane-polarized pump light P is coupled with the light guide body 4 so that its plane of polarization is at approximately 45 deg. to the main axis of the light guide body 4. This optical mixer is used suitably for an optical phase- locked loop. |
