METHOD FOR OFFLOADING OF EXTRACTION OF COMMITTED DATA FROM DATABASE SYSTEM TO CONTROL DEVICE

PURPOSE: To reduce the memory capacity and processing capacity consumed by a host by off-loading the extraction of committed data for answering to an inquiry from a database system to a controller while allowing the simultaneous updating of the committed data. CONSTITUTION: A host 10 constituting a database system incorporates a database management system 12 and a buffer manager 14 and the manager 14 manages such a buffer pool 16 that is used for caching a data page returned by a controller 20. The host 10 communicates with the controller 20 through a two-way communication channel 18 and the controller 20 individually accesses four discs 24-30 and communicates with each disc through a two-way communication channel 22. Therefore, the memory and processing capacity of the host 10 can be utilized more and the utilization of channels can be reduced substantially.
