PURPOSE:To control the drive of an ultrasonic motor even when such different vibration modes as the longitudinal vibration mode and flexural vibration mode are utilized. CONSTITUTION:An ultrasonic motor is provided with an elastic body 11 and electromechanical conversion elements 12 and 13 coupled to the elastic body 11 and, when the elastic body 11 is made to make elliptic motions resulting from the resultant vibration of longitudinal vibrations and flexural vibrations so that the body 11 can make relative motions against a relative-motion member by causing the body 11 to generate a longitudinal vibration mode and flexural vibration mode, the motion of the body 11 is controlled within a frequency range higher than the higher one of the resonance frequencies of the longitudinal and flexural vibration modes. |
