The invention concerns a process for automatically triggering a flushing process for urinals (2) having an electrically actuatable shut-off valve (5) in the water supply line (4) and a temperature sensor (12) which is disposed in the air trap (9) and of which the signals are evaluated by an electronic control and evaluating unit (14) in order to control the shut-off valve (5). In order to generate signals which can be reliably evaluated for triggering the flushing processes whilst excluding environmental influences, the control and evaluating unit (14) determines the temperature gradient with reference to the values supplied by the temperature sensor (12) and, when a predetermined minimum value of the temperature gradient is exceeded, triggers a flushing process which can be performed in a time-delayed manner.
