Agricultural machine esp. beet harvester, with automatic control system

The machine has a controller for automatic lateral control of the machine frame and/or of a harvester carried on the frame. The output of pulses for the controller is dependent on a sensing device operating along a row of beet. The sensing device and pulse generator consists of two optoelectronic proximity switches (7,8) at a distance apart and at a distance above the beet (10) and an associated sensor system. The switches (7,8) are arranged and directed to use the cut surface (9) of a beheaded beet, which is lighter than the surrounding soil, as a reflection surface.
