A disposable pet toilet assembly (28) comprising an absorbent material which is deployed in a plurality of strips (23) which are attached together and caused to stand upright and arrayed to touch each other so as to develop friction and therefore provided a soft resilient grass-like texture attractive to animals. In its preferred embodiment, the strips (23) are further attached to an absorbent base sheet (25) and liquid impervious membrane liner (29) which prevents soiling and provides a wrapping for the absorbent material for easy disposal. The assembly (28) is designed to be used with a coventional kitty litter box (41) or by itself as a portable and disposable toilet assembly (28) for travelling with a pet.
