The invention concerns a combing machine with individual electric drives to several spindles, a control unit designed to synchronize the individual drives, a discontinuously driven rotary comb and grippers driven, synchronized with the rotary comb, to execute a closing action. In order to provide the rotary comb (5) with an individual drive and thus avoid complicated transmissions which are subject to wear, the invention calls for an individual electric drive (54, 55) for the discontinuous drive to the rotary comb (5). This individual drive (54, 55) is designed as an external-rotor motor whose stator (54) is mounted, with the stator coil, on the rotary-comb spindle (53) and whose rotor has a housing (51) which is concentric with the stator (54), the housing being part of the magnetic short-circuit elements of the external-rotor motor and the comb elements (52) of the rotary comb (5) being attached to the outer wall of the housing.
