Prodn. of expanded calcined clay comprises adding melting point-modifying and energy-introducing auxiliary aids to the crude clay used as starting material. The novelty is that one part of the auxiliary aid consists essentially of ion oxide particles moistened with a mixt. of water and lubricating oil. The auxiliary aids are obtd. by sedimenting cooling water from a steel rolling plant.
