Connecting two continuous plastic strips and process appts.

In a process for connecting the ends (22) of a first plastic strip (6) with the start (21) of a second plastic strip (5): (i) the conveyer is stopped; (ii) the respective ends (21, 22) of the strips (5, 6) are overlapped; (iii) the ends (21, 22) are welded together across a lateral area under heat and pressure until the thickness of a single plastic strip (5, 6) is achieved; and (iv) both lose ends (21, 22) are torn away. Also claimed is the process appts. including (i) two movable carriers (1, 1') as wide as the strips (5, 6) and at a distance from each other; and (ii) a welding bar (8, 8') held in a groove (2, 2') extending laterally across each carrier (1, 1') and projecting from it. Pref. welding is effected with welding bars (8, 8'). The upper, second plastic strip (5) undergoes high compression in a first area than the first plastic strip (6) below it. Likewise the first strip (6) is subjected to higher compression in an adjacent second area on the opposite side. The triangular cross-section of the compressed areas creates a deliberate fracture line at the area of highest compression in each area allowing easy stripping of waste material.
