The protective cover (24) is located around a part of the curved container wall (6'), which has been compressed. The wall part consists of a carrier layer (22) and a protective layer (23). Either layer may be compressed in the area covered by the protective layer. The carrier layer consists of paper or cardboard. The wall part forms the container wall, and has overlapping and engaging end sections. At least one of the edges (13) thus formed faces the interior or exterior of the container, and has a protective cover.
