DATA TERMINAL EQUIPMENT CONNECTION METHOD TO ATM EXCHANGE NETWORK

PURPOSE:To use a data terminal equipment used for an existing LAN such as an Ethernet by connecting a data terminal equipment in a non-ATM processed LAN to an ATM exchange network via a specific ATM adaptor. CONSTITUTION:An ATM adaptor 20 is provided with an address table 22 cross- referencing an IP address and a communication VPI number, an adaptor control section 21 implements transmission/reception of information and control with respect to data transmission reception control with a data processing section 2 to send/receive an ATM cell with an ATM transmission line via a transmission section 24. Furthermore, a data conversion section 23 makes conversion between an IP packet and an ATM cell. Then the ATM adaptor 20 makes conversion bidirectionally between an information field and an address field of a packet sent/received with a data ferminal equipment in a non-ATM processed LAN such as an Ethernet and an information field and a header part of an ATM cell sent/received in the ATM conversion network. The ATM adaptor 20 is provided in the data terminal equipment 1 and connected to the ATM conversion network.
