The measurement procedure includes transmitting a series of non-modulated hyperfrequency signals with discrete pulses distributed in a certain frequency band. The pulses are transmitted towards the surface whose position is to be measured. The signals received back are demodulated using an inverse Fourier transform process in order to determine a rough measurement of the position of the surface causing the echo. This is followed by a high resolution method for location of the radiation sources for accurate determination of the position of the reflecting surface. <IMAGE>
