An electrical contact element is produced as a metal pressing (10) that has a section formed with a 'U'-shape (11,13). The end section (14) projects from the spring arm and deflects to securely grip the exposed tip of an inserted wire (15). The centre of the 'U'-shaped contact element is cut away (19) and allows a second wire to be inserted. The insulation of the wire is penetrated to engage the wire core. A number of variations are possible.
