An elongated trim strip is formed by extruding a strip of thermoplastic material 12 from a die having an outlet with a x-sectional area at least substantially as great as that desired for the strip product and, while the extruded strip is still in a plastic state, passing it between cooperating rolls 16, 18 to shape the strip to the desired cross section. While passing between the rolls a logo or lettering may be formed on the strip. A backing strip 20 of foil or thin metal is also directed between the rolls, 16, 18 in alignment with the extruded strip to bond to that strip. Alternatively one or more cables of high strength flexible material, such as metal wire, may be joined to or embedded in the extruded strip during the extrusion process. The backing strip or cable(s) may function as means for drawing the extruded strip through a cooling bath without stretching or deforming the extruded strip. The cables can be severed from the cooled strip if desired. <IMAGE> |
