The present invention relates to a process for the production of crystalline sodium sheet silicate with kanemite structure with the chemical formula NaH Si2O5xX H2O in which X represents a value between 1 and 3. Crystalline sodium sheet silicate with kanemite structure is produced by maintaining a mixture of sodium disilicate, silica and water in the molar ratio of 1:2:(6-8) at a temperature of 20 DEG to 100 DEG C. for a period of 0.2 to 10 h.
