In the appts. to determine the stability of a material to sunlight, an artificial light source is directed at it in a controlled atmosphere to give an accelerated, progressive and continuous exposure in a closed chamber. One section is illuminated to expose the material to the artificial light at a controlled intensity and constant temp. The second section is not illuminated, and is at ambient temp. A drive moves the test pieces at a slow speed from the illuminated section into the shaded section. The lamp is separated from the test pieces by a pane of borosilicate glass.
