The hollow support post (1) is bent from a sheet metal strip, forming longitudinal bending edges, and forms a polygonal, enclosed hollow profile. The opposite, longitudinal side edges (22,23) abut each other and are interconnected by rabbets (21). In the hollow profile the longitudinal side edges of the sheet metal strip are inwards bent, parallel to each other, with one edge (22) rabbeted about the other one (23) at the front side. The hollow profile cross-section may be rectangular, with the four corners pressed inwardly diagonally as longitudinal gaps, forming form U-profiles (17a,b,18).
