Liq. filter uses smooth sided vessel to support a filter basket

An improvement in a liquid filter having a vessel with inlet and outlet, and including a basket supported in the vessel and a filter bag. The vessel sidewall (40) is substantially smooth but for an internal annular projection (41). The basket (66) has an upper lip (74) which is supported by the projection. The filter bag has a mounting ring attached which has a shoulder for seating against the lip of the basket adjacent to the side wall. The ring also has a flange projecting from the shoulder for sealing against the side wall to prevent a fluid leakage between the sidewall and the bag. Also claimed is the improvement as above where the basket is supported by the vessel bottom so that the vessel wall is substantially smooth. The flange on the mounting ring on the filter bag is flared out and up from the shoulder. Also claimed is the improvement as above where the filter bag mounting ring shoulder forms a recess and an outer bead into which the basket flange fits.
