The wire winder has a clamp, a spool turning device (2) on an axially movable but non-rotating axis (7), a cutting and holding device fixed to the stand (6), and a sticking device, to exchange a full spool (5) for an empty one (11). The wire (8) to be wound can be brought into the cutting and holding device within its path during the spool change. The full spool is in the immediate vicinity of the sticking device so that the last loop can be stuck down. The spool winding device consists of a planetary drive.
