AN APPARATUS FOR MAKING DENTAL MODELS

An apparatus for making dental models for prosthesis work comprises a base plate (1) having a groove (2) extending essentially in accordance with the centre line of a row of teeth. The surfaces of said groove (2) are provided with pairs of slots (5, 6) facing each other, said pairs of slots (5, 6) being adapted to receive the essentially complementary shaped parts (12, 13) of keys (7) to be removeably retained in the groove (2). Each key (7) comprises an upper casting portion (10) to be cast into a casting of a segment of a row of teeth and a lower keying portion (11) to be inserted in the groove (2). The keying portion (11) of a key (7) is an essentially U-shaped element to be inserted into the groove (2) with the bottom (20) of the U first and each leg (12, 13) engaging the corresponding surface of the groove (2). When the key is mounted in the base plate (1), the casting portion (10) of the key (7) is an upwards projecting part forming an extension of the leg (12) of the U.
