<p>Liquid metal is introduced into mould cavity (26) of mould (24) when the latter is either within pressure vessel (10) or before it has been introduced into the latter. The pressure vessel (10) is sealed by means of the lid (18) and the mould (24) is then lowered using table (20) and rod (22) into a liquid quenching medium (14) in reservoir (12) at the bottom of the pressure vessel (10) to produce a very rapid directional quenching of the metal in the mould (24).</p> |
