The door operating drive uses an electromechanical motor (1) coupled to an angle gearing (3) via a clutch (6). An energy storage spring provides the energy for closing the door. The motor is operated in a generator mode during the closure movement. A mechanical clutch is employed. A data processor is coupled to a motor control (2) for regulating the motor current and maintaining optimum operation of the door according to a stored programme by monitoring the detected door position.
