Pulse laser distance measurement system

A pulsed laser beam of ultra short pulse width is divided (102) into measurement and reference beams. The measurement beam is deflected (103,104) to the object (100) and the reflected light collected, combined (106) with the reference beam and fed to a time gate (107). The distance to the object is derived (108) from the signal generated by the time gate. The combination device deflects the beams along parallel paths to time gate and contains devices which bring the beams into overlap within the time gate.
