A device for gluing sheetlike reinforcements 14 into the base of cardboard boxes 17, where either the reinforcement or the box is provided with a glue layer, comprises a conveyor for bringing the boxes to a predetermined position, a transfer device for delivering a reinforcement sheet from a hopper 15 to a position adjacent the box and means for pressing the sheet against the box base to adhere the two. The transfer device may comprise suction heads 2 and the pressing means may comprise a pushing plate 20 with holes suitably disposed to permit movement of the plate past the suction heads.
