The force required to turn the steering wheel is varied in accordance with not only the velocity of the vehicle but also with the steering angle, for greater safety. When sensed signals for the velocity of the vehicle are abnormal, the force required to turn the steering wheel is maintained at a constant value regardless of the running state of the vehicle. The system includes vehicle velocity sensing means, and steering angle sensing means which send signals to a micro-controller for outputting data control signals to set a power steering hydraulic pressure by utilizing a data set in accordance with the velocity and steering angle signals. A hydraulic control means connected to the micro-controller controls a coil current, thereby varying an opening degree of a solenoid valve which controls the flow of hydraulic fluid. <IMAGE> |
