A reciprocating plate (10, 14) mechanism is provided with a motor (36) rotating in one direction to produce forward and reverse motion by a drive wheel (32) in direct contact with the forward (18) and rear (24) surfaces of the plate (14). The plate (14) can take the form of a sliding door (14) covering a vanity mirror (16) in a vehicular sun visor (12).
