The burner has primary injectors (4) feeding a firebox (3) along the axis (12) of a combustion air feed channel (2), and secondary injectors (7) spaced in a ring round the primary ones and feeding into ducts (9) which recirculate the smoke and fumes from the firebox. The secondary injectors and recirculation ducts are situated within the area of the air feed channel, and the outlet ends (18) of the recirculation ducts, together with the secondary gases, are located along axes (16) lying parallel to the feed channel axis (12), with their ends (14) open into the firebox. The end of the feed channel (2) has a central flame stabiliser surrounding the primary injectors. <IMAGE>
