PURPOSE:To obtain a primary amine in a short time and in high yield, by reducing a nitrile with hydrogen by the use of Raney cobalt catalyst produced from cobalt and aluminum as essential components by melt spray method. CONSTITUTION:A mixed melt of cobalt and aluminum as essential components is sprayed to give Raney alloy powder, which is treated with an alkali and aluminum is eluted to give a Raney cobalt catalyst having hydrogenating activity. A nitrile is reduced with hydrogen in the presence of the catalyst in a solventless state or in a solvent at 0-100kg/cm<2> hydrogen pressure at normal temperature - 200 deg.C to give a primary amine. The mixed melt contains cobalt, aluminum and one or more of manganese, molybdenum, iron and lead as the third component. |
