The device includes a register (16) containing the identification number of a portable telephone. A buffer memory (10) is provided to temporarily store the short information messages transmitted by the network controlling station. One of the received messages includes a list of identification numbers of terminals which are being used fraudulently. A comparator (14) compares the identification number of the terminal with each of the numbers of the list. A circuit then invalidates further transmission and communication by the telephone if a match is found between the numbers.
