PURPOSE:To set a distance between vehicles of performing acceleration and deceleration to a distance of not giving a feeling of physical disorder to a driver. CONSTITUTION:Based on a self vehicle speed and an actual distance between vehicles obtained by a car speed sensor 1 and an intervehicle distance measuring device 2, an intervehicle distance of starting acceleration/deceleration, referring a driving characteristic of a driver to a driver model arithmetic device 3, and an intervehicle distance of deceleration, referring a physical characteristic of a vehicle to a vehicle model arithmetic device 4, are calculated, respectively. In an acceleration/deceleration judging device 5, in accordance with changing an actual intervehicle distance or the like, an acceleration signal (f) is generated, when the actual intervehicle distance comes to be the calculated acceleration intervehicle distance in the case of acceleration, and by a speed controller 6, a throttle actuator 7 is driven to perform acceleration. In the case of deceleration, the deceleration intervehicle distance, calculated in both the arithmetic devices 3, 4, are compared, and when the actual intervehicle distance leads to a value larger in comparison, the throttle actuator is driven to start deceleration by an engine brake. In this way, acceleration/deceleration, matched with the vehicle characteristic and an intervehicle distance feeling of the driver, are performed. |
