PURPOSE:To make it possible to start the engine in a power plant used in hybrid electric vehicles, through a small-sized starter by reducing the load on the starter. CONSTITUTION:A hydraulic clutch 2 is placed between an engine 1 and a generator 4 driven thereby. The clutch 2 is controlled by means of a hydraulic pump 9 and a clutch control mechanism 29, and the engine 1 is thereby connected to or disconnected from the generator 4. When the number of revolutions of the engine 1 is low and the discharge pressure of the hydraulic pump 9 is low, the hydraulic clutch 2 is in the disengaged state. When the discharge pressure reaches the set pressure of a check valve 31, the engagement of the clutch 2 is started. Thereafter, the hydraulic cylinder pressure is gradually increased by the action of an orifice 32 and an accumulator 33, and the clutch 2 is slipped and brought into the engaged state. When the hydraulic cylinder pressure exceeds a specified value, the engine 1 and the generator 4 are connected with each other without slipping. |
