<p>PURPOSE:To prevent degradation in light shielding by driving circuits and the luminance of a display device by providing the display device with the transparent driving circuits formed by using optically transparent active elements in correspondence to the display cells of the device. CONSTITUTION:Light is made incident on a glass substrate 21 through a polarizing plate 23 and a phase difference plate 22 at the time of operation. The incident light arrives at a liquid crystal layer 36 without absorption by dielectric base transistors(TRs) and insulator layers enclosing the same. The liquid crystal layer 36 includes the liquid crystal molecules regulated in the arranging direction on the respective surfaces of first and second oriented films 35, 37 as usual and the arranging direction of the liquid crystal molecules is changed by the voltage applied between the transparent electrodes 34 and 38. Namely, the optical state of the liquid crystal layer 36 is changed by the voltage obtd. in emitter electrodes 30a of the dielectric base TRs. Consequently, the liquid crystal cell turns the incident light on and off.</p> |
