PURPOSE:To obtain a liquid disinfectant usable as a medical disinfectant aiming at the sterilization of causative microorganisms of infection in relation to medical care and for disinfecting materials related to foods or barns and further as a decontaminating sheet product. CONSTITUTION:This liquid disinfectant comprises >=0.01% p-hydroxybenzoic acid ester, preferably butyl p-hydroxybenzoate, >=5% alcohol, preferably ethanol and water. Furthermore, when >=0.1% humectant (propylene glycol is especially preferred) is added, the persistence of pharmacodynamic effects can be improved and the irritancy to the skin, etc., can be reduced. As a preferred example of blending, a blend of 0.2-0.5% butyl p-hydroxybenzoate with 40% ethanol, 10% propylene glycol and the remainder of water is cited. The disinfectant has strong germicidal activities and a small amount of the disinfectant is capable of sterilizing Escherichia coli that is a Gram-negative bacterium, Staphylococcus aureus, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, etc., which are Gram-positive bacteria with quick-acting effects and effective against strongly toxic methicillin-resistant Staphylococus aureus(MRSA). |
