PURPOSE:To obtain an encapsulated cell by using a non-biodecomposable anionic polymer at the outermost layer of a capsule produced by coating a cell with a mixed gel of agarose and a polystyrenesulfonic acid and forming an ion complex on the circumference of the mixed get. CONSTITUTION:This encapsulated cell is composed of a cell, a mixed gel layer covering the cell and containing agarose and a polystyrenesulfonic acid, a cationic polymer layer covering the mixed gel layer and a non-biodecomposable anionic polymer layer covering the cationic polymer layer. The implantation of the encapsulated cell in the body enables the permeation of the cell products and necessary components, prevents the permeation of compounds harmful to the cell and keeps the functions such as biocompatibility over a long period. Accordingly, cell-transplantation therapy can be performed by the use of the encapsulated cell. |
