TIME-DIVISION MULTIPLEXING METHOD

PURPOSE:To enable the postrecording of an audio signal by over-writing a compressed video signal and part of a compressed audio signal and multiplexing them on a time-division basis through a high-efficiency encoding processing. CONSTITUTION:A video signal is sectioned into each unit of video frames 2 of GOP1 and the compressed video signal is generated through the high- efficiency encoding processing. An audio signal for giving a sound to the video signal is sectioned into audio frames 3 and data compression is performed. When a compressed audio signal as a minimum unit extends to GOPs before and after it, some compressed audio signals are recorded overwriting on the precedent and trailing GOPs in sample units. Consequently, when the audio signal is postrecorded, connections between audio signals between GOPs are matched even unless the number of samples and the number of video samples are in integer relation.
