2-Hydroxyphenyl benztriazoles of the general formula <FORM:1026142/C2/1> wherein R, R1 and R2 each represent H, halogen, NO2, C1 to C18 allyl, aryl, C1 to C18 alkoxy, or an aryloxy group, at least one R, R1 and R2 containing at least 5 C-atoms and the total in R1 and R2 being at least 8, are stated to be made by diazotizing the orthonitroaniline corresponding to the benztoriazole variety, coupling with the corresponding phenol and reducing with zinc and sodium hydroxide. Typical products include examples containing the following R, R1, R2 groups: H,H,C8H17- i; H,H,C8H17-n; H,C5H11-t; C5H11-t; H,H,C12H25-n; H,C5H11-t; CH2C6H5; C4H9OOC-, C4H9-n, C5H11-t; NO2, C8H17-n, CH3O. |
