In a reduction gear comprising an input shaft 14, wave generators in the form of balls 10, 12 which are adapted to flex a flexible pressure ring 16 on rotation of shaft 14 thereby to force a first set of teeth 24 on the outer periphery of a flexible cylinder member 22 into consecutive engagement with a second set of teeth 30 on the inner surface of a cylindrical chamber 28, the pressure ring 16 is split in order to relieve bearing and bending stresses. The balls 10, 12 are mounted in a guide 18 and may engage the shaft surface and the internal surface of the ring 16 or, alternatively, they may only engage the surface of the ring 16, in which case the guide 18 is secured to the shaft 14. An output shaft 32 is secured to the cylinder 22. The split 20 may be axial or inclined. The difference in the numbers of teeth of gears 24 and 30 is equal to the number of wave generators. |
