The settling tank is used for the treatment of gases polluted by moisture and dust. The wet electrostatic settling tank (1) includes a condenstation and cooling unit (21) which is connected to a settling section (20) of the electrostatic settling tank. Multiple emission electrodes (4) are fitted in the collecting electrodes(5) which get across the cooling unit (21). A system of distribution tubes (50 & 60) is fitted in the upper and lower end sections of the settling sections (20) in such a way that even distribution of a cooling medium (23) is produced on the surface of the collecting electrodes (5) across which the gas is fed in a direct flow. The even distribution of the cooling medium contributes to the reduction of the degree of corrosion on the internal surfaces of the collecting electrodes (5) as a result of establishing conditions for condensation of these surfaces due to the constant and low temperatures of the collecting electrodes and the lower concentration of crrosive substances in the condensate. There is a possibility of using steel collecting electrodes which have relatively low content of alloying elements.
