Method for producing somatic embryos and vegetative points capable of producing, following germination, uniformly and vigorously growing plantlets by controlling the maturation of said embryos or vegetative points, and applications thereof. The method of the invention comprises (a) cultivating immature somatic embryos in a maturation medium containing 0.01-10 mg/l, preferably 0.05-1 mg/l, of a water-soluble beta -cyclodextrin, for a period of 5 to 30 days so as to produce mature, synchronously and vigorously germinating embryos, and (b) separating and washing the embryos obtained in step (a).
