The mechanism has a ratchet assembly (5) which is connected to a handle which drives a toothed wheel (4) in order to rotate a shaft. The shaft moves in a first angular sector when the handle is pivoted in a first direction, and in a second sector in a second pivoted direction that is opposite to the first. The ratchet assembly is arranged so that the toothed wheel can only be rotated in the first or second directions when the handle is pivoted in the respective first or second directions.
