A multi-piece vehicle wheel hub with a forged hub base, a cylindrical sleeve with an inner diameter spline surface for engagement with a wheel spindle, and an annular surface on the hub base complementarily engagable with an end of the sleeve, wherein the base and sleeve are engaged in abutment and fastened along the annular surface. Preferably, the wheel hub is shrink fitted to the end of the sleeve along the annular surface to form an integral hub. The splines are preferably through-broach machined in the sleeve prior to assembly with the base. Forging of the base separate from the cylinder and splines provides for common usage of a single forged hub base in constructing both live and drive wheel hubs.
