The converter, using mechanical energy derived from variable hydraulic pressure, comprises an oscillating system round a shaft and a number of variable volume chambers, each in the shape of a semi-cylindrical sector (2) turning inside a housing (1) of the same shape. The chambers are in communication in pairs with a source of a liquid, and the angular position of the assembly at any one time determines the volume of each chamber as well as the height of the free surface of the liquid sources, so that the hydraulic thrust forces create a reciprocating motion in the oscillating system. Each sector (2) is mounted on a shaft (6) which can turn freely in relation to a housing and is connected through a gear train and a crown ring with the same axis as the oscillating system so that the sectors always turn in the opposite direction to the oscillating system.
