PURPOSE:To increase the hardness of the tip of a contact tip for welding and enhance the wear resistance by irradiating the tip with laser beam. CONSTITUTION:The tip of a contact tip for welding made of copper of its alloy is irradiated with laser beam. The irradiated potion is given high hardness and the wear resistance is enhanced. This irradiation method makes unnecessary the use of a special high strength material causing a lowering in electric or heat conductivity. Pure copper, chromium copper, etc. can be strengthened by this method, and this method hardens the materials more easily than work hardening and gives higher hardness. |
