The track comprises surfacing (1) as used for roads, and on which a railway with sleepers is laid. The surfacing is smooth under the sleepers (3). Bosses (7) are provided for the sleepers, being secured at their bottom ends (8) in recesses in the previously-laid surfacing. The protruding top boss ends (9) absorb horizontal loads acting in the axial direction of the sleepers, so that these cannot move on the surfacing at right angles to the railway axis. However they can move in the vertical direction. The bosses can be inserted in trough-shaped continuous recesses running parallel to the railway axis, and in which they are secured, fillers being inserted in the recess between adjacent bosses.
